It’s the controversial question we have striven to answer for decades, is there life on other planets? The BBC takes us on a galactic adventure attempting to offer a solution to this age-old mystery. Recently, there has been a revolutionary discovery as astronomers have uncovered a new planet. Gliese 581 c, is like no other planets discovered, except our own. The newly found planet orbits a star and might have environments that are capable of supporting life. To date it is the most Earth-like planet known to science, which offers hope that there is extraterrestrial life.

By the end of the decade, NASA hopes to discover 50 more similar planets, Earth-like planets. If they manage to do so, it will only prove to strengthen the theory that there is life on other planets than Earth.  Are We Alone In The Universe contains 50 minutes of strong material.
