Can you fathom a world without money? Where did it come from and how did it become the necessity it is today?

This six part television documentary is based on Harvard professor Niall Ferguson’s tenth book The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World. It takes us on the financial journey of how money has been affected by a series of  crashes and crises since it was first created.

Dating back to the birth of banks to the rise ‘Chimerica’ it offers valuable insight into the history of finances. He begins by exploring banking and the fresh concepts surrounding debt and credits. These concepts reinforce the world’s economy. The documentary traces finance from its very beginnings in Mesopotamia to the riches we familiarize it with today.

Ferguson presents the four-hour series by uncovering the many stories within our history that relate to and are heavily affected by money. The Ascent of Money showcases many important leaders in the financial industry. It also covers important figures in the marketing and banking field.

Not a detail is left out as the film brings to life many of the major financial landmarks. The award-winning documentary undoubtedly covers everything there is know about money, even showing us viewers the best way to invest it. For all things money this is the film.
