Can We Make A Star On Earth?

Nuclear fusion, it fuels the sun and is necessary to all life on the planet. Could this remarkable source of energy be the answer to the looming energy crisis?
The BBC welcomes back Professor Brian Cox has he ventures deep into the Sun to uncover the mysterious force that gives it life. He discovers the closest star to Earth has burned for five billion years because of this powerful fusion energy. That same star will continue to burn bright for as long again in the future. Now what if we could create a star on Earth?
In this documentary Cox is determined to uncover why after at least five decades of efforts, we have not been able to use a single watt of fusion electricity. Given rare access to the largest and most enthusiastic fusion experiments in the world, Cox ventures to the USA to get a first hand look at a fusion bomb testing facility in action. He is also given a tour of the world’s strongest laser.
Travelling to South Korea, he climbs inside the reaction chamber of the world’s first super-conducting, super-cooled fusion reactor K-Star. This is where the fate of future fusion research will be determined.
Is nuclear fusion the answer?
