An extraordinaire collection of visionaries and entrepreneurs were assembled in the same room to talk about the next ten years. CEOs of Fortune 500 companies in mobile, online advertising, twitter, Google, and computer hardware companies.

Where do they see us going? This conference will get your mind racing about the possibilities! They see technology being handed over to the individual and culture becoming less and less relevant. An example is music: a top song is not as influential as the market fractures and individuals become more independent. There’s a family culture, work culture, hobby culture: they see us splintering into smaller and smaller groups and having bigger and bigger influence within these sub niches.

In 1961 JFK predicted that there would be a man on the moon before 1970. No one really believed him, but it happened (unless you believe that it did not! – well, then it still happened!). In 1970 it was predicted that America would put a man on Mars by 1980. Nobody thought that it wouldn’t happen – by 1990, or 2000, or 2010. Now, in 2012 we must ask ourselves: CAN WE MAKE IT TO MARS? Many questions present themselves. First, it would take three years to go to Mars and back: far longer than a trip to the moon. Second, there is a very real risk of meteors. Will we ever put a man on Mars? Or, is it just too expensive? Do we have what it takes/

Beating the Bomb is an independent, non commercial, grassroots documentary. It has been screened in over 15 festivals worldwide and won an award for ‘best documentary, aglet award’ at The Red Rock Film Festival in Utah, USA.

It was born out of the desire to rebalance the mainstream, status quo reporting on a very important issue in politics, in fact, the underpinning power instrument –nuclear weapons.

The foundations of the power structures that rose out of the rubble of WWII, thus the foundations of our economic and political system are ‘straight power concepts’. The most straightforward of them being ‘The Bomb’, both in its physical manifestation and also in the mindset it engenders and stems from.

The fight for a nuclear free world and a sustainable system necessitates that the status quo be challenged. A more ecologically sustainable, less consumer driven, less exploited world is a dream shared by millions. So why are we are paying trillions to keep the unsustainable status quo going? In a world where 800 million don’t have access to safe drinking water – will they get their water before we spend trillions more building more weapons in the name of ‘security, creating jobs and economic growth’?

In a spellbinding talk from TEDxVancouver paleontologist Jack Horner describes how slicing open fossil skulls revealed a shocking secret about some of our most beloved dinosaurs.

Jack Horner and his dig teams have discovered the first evidence of parental care in dinosaurs, extensive nesting grounds, evidence of dinosaur herds, and the world’s first dinosaur embryos. He’s now exploring how to build a dinosaur

The great space race to put a man on the moon. It was first proposed by President John F. Kennedy, who predicted that by the end of the 1960′s, man will have gone to the moon. Further, that it would be an American who first stepped foot on the moon.

It was a bold promise – perhaps a challenge, as there was much more at stake than bragging rights. The United States, as we remember, was deep in a political struggled with the U.S.S.R for world dominance. It was a battle of communism and capitalism. While the citizens wondered innocently about who would fly their flag on the moon, the USSR and USA were running secret programs to have spying satellites, military missiles, and more aimed at the other country!

At the time, the world didn’t know how dangerously close nuclear war became on several occasions. Frankly, I think it is a miracle we survived. This NOVA effort shows us just how lucky we are – and how close we came to Star Wars.

If you live in the developed world, there’s a very good chance that you use electricity in your every day life. We use it to power our homes, our computers, and our medical equipment. Yet, if you’re like me, then even though you consider yourself a fairly well educated and bright individual: you don’t know squat about how it works.

In this BBC documentary, Professor Jim Al-Khalili breathes a lightning size breath of knowledge into a subject that is mystery of nature. Even 200 years ago, electricity was more magic than science. Cavemen would see bolts of lightning striking trees and they certainly learned, first hand, of its power. However, only in the 20th century did society fully and unconditionally embrace and harness the energy.

SHOCK AND AWE: THE STORY OF ELECTRICITY is a three part documentary that is produced by the BBC. Episode One talks about the early scientists who first went about the task of unlocking the electrical genie form the bottle. They built instruments, did experiments, had meetings, got electrocuted and made slow and painful progress forward. These men (and a few women) learned how to tame lightning: they learned how to contain it and do their bidding. They made water dance.

ENJOY!
