Cocaine Cowboys takes viewers behind the scenes of the illegal drug trade in Miami, Florida. Although marijuana imports dominated the drug trade in the early 1960s and 1970s, lucrative cocaine imports were quick to take its place. But how was this dangerous drug brought in? What effects did it have on Miami at the time?

In this documentary, these and many other questions surrounding the Miami drug trade are revealed. The drug importers will reveal their main method to transport cocaine in was by boat and air. They also reveal to us the complexity of their transportation methods.

The film explores the economic growth of Miami during this time period and argues much of it was due to the illegal drug trade. Their was such vast amounts of money being made by these drug trade workers and they in turn pumped it back into the community, contributing to the economic growth.

Featuring interviews with journalists, drug trade workers, police enforcement, lawyers and drug smugglers Cocaine Cowboys offers a first-hand look into the Miami drug war. While exploring the rise of cocaine, the film also examines the crime epidemic that came along with it.  The documentary will captivate you as it takes an in-depth look into how Miami became the murder, drug, and cash capital of the United States.

Be sure to watch the sequel, titled Cocaine Cowboys 2: Hustlin’ With The Godmother, if you enjoyed this one!

We live in England. Stuff like that doesn’t happen here – but I wish it did. It looks very exciting. They were always running a huge risk. It just seemed to escalate so quickly. Drugs then guns, then guns and death – or priso for the lucky ones.

What do you mean you wish it did happen in england? You wish for the systematic killing of men, women, and children fueled by a drug war? are you insane? I bet you wont be so stoked on the idea when there is a hail of gunfire from all around you as you hide on the floor of your home, covering your children with your body so they wont be struck by a stray bullet. If you want excitement, go to an amusement park. Think before you talk next time man, you should never ask for this kind of evil
