I was really surprised by this documentary. I went into it with the mindset that these men were sick and I was going to be disgusted by their stories, but I wasn't. Instead I found myself feeling compassion for them. My heart ached for these human beings that had such low self-esteem that they had given up on finding companionship. It was really quite sad.

Before watching this film, the only dolls I'd ever seen were the cheap blow up style. I assumed they were joke items and would wonder who'd buy one for sexual use. This film showed me the hurt and heartache these men endured any why they felt they needed a companion doll. I do hope, however, they seek therapy and realize their own self worth; that they can build healthy, loving, lasting relationships with living women. All relationships are a mix of give and take. I'm sure out there are women who would love you with all their hearts. They may not have the manufactured beauty of the doll or its passive nature but real women can give you so much more. After watching this video I was left feeling ambivalent. It is very sad that these men feel so alienated and fearful that they choose to have relationships with inanimate objects rather, which can never truly return affection, rather than having relationships with organic people. However, each of them men also reported unrealistic expectations for what they would want in a partner in addition to unwillingness to go through the struggles which, inevitably, make up human relationships. As a woman I feel relieved that these men have found a way to satisfy their needs without imposing their unrealistic expectations on any real, feeling women. As a human I feel sad these men have chosen to pursue connections with objects which will reinforce their negative self concept (they are unlovable) as well as alienate them from being able to form bonds with real people who could help them realize that they are worthy of love.
