"Magnetic Storm" tells the story of the Earth's molten core where a vast ocean of liquid iron generates an invisible force field: the Earth's magnetic field.

But there is a storm brewing which could destroy the shield which is cocooning us from the dangers of space.

They forgot to mention that the earths upper atmosphere magnetizes itself, so that if we would turn off the earths magnetic field, within a few hours the self-magnetized field would have the same strength as the earths field today. It has something to do with positive and negative particles from the sun being slowed down by the atmosphere at different rates...
I can explain it in detail if anyone cares. ;-)

Just don't worry too much.
