Fractals: The Colors Of Infinity
Yet another classic documentary about fractals, infinity and the Mandelbrot set, but this time presented by science fiction -and science fact- author Arthur C. Clarke.
The Mandelbrot set is one of the most beautiful and remarkable discoveries in the entire history of mathematics. It was discovered in 1980. The invention of the silicon chip in the 1970's created a revolution in computers and communication, and hence transformed our way of life. We're now seeing another revolution that is going to change our view of the universe give us a better understanding of its working. Arthur C. Clarke explains in Fractals: The Colors Of Infinity.

the most amasing thing I ever heard!!and it makes sence, with this we can try to reproduce a map of inter-comunication for any life form. with this new language in his baby steps we can re-shape the preception on time. can anyone see that? the potential in pratical ways not yet discovered?it can and hopefully it will change everything. if we can do this and see this is possible to re-think a completly new way of organization. sociologicaly, tecnologicaly, cronologicaly, ..., in everything...

They say that the plank length is the smallest measurable length. That WE can measure they mean right? If something can be cut in half, then that piece be cut in half, then that peice can be cut in half, and the plank length be cut in half, then wouldnt that suggest that units and the universe is infinite? As a whole, everything can be split in two, EVERY seperate WHOLE has 2 halfs. So plank length can not be the smallest length. Length is INFINITE. Big or small.

The first thing that came to my mind after watching this was a book on water crystals by Masaru Emoto. These crystals have a Mandelbrot look about them even for someone like me who knows absolutely zilch on the suject.

the planck length is the blank page for which the 1st "seed" of the fractal begins? if there is a beginning. but don't fractals have to begin with a "seed"? i'm ignorant but interested.
