The Perfect Vagina

After having watched Penis Size Insecurity By Men, it's now time to move on to lesson two and have a look at womens insecurities: The Perfect Vagina.

Fronted by Lisa Rogers, this documentary focuses on the rise in vaginal cosmetic surgery, specifically labiaplasty. For the uninitiated, labiaplasty involves cutting off the inner labia so that they don’t ‘hang’ below the outer labia. Ouch! The labiaplasty business has skyrocketed over the past few years, and Lisa’s mission was to find out why so many women hate the appearance of their vulvas to the point that they’d willingly have pieces of them surgically removed.

Seeking "perfection" on your sexual organs is ludicrous, where does it start? Is it from lack of overall female respect, the fact that sexuality on the world over focuses on male pleasure?

Possibly.

Or maybe it's the fault of women for their need to please men by being attractive and made up, not giving time nor effort to focus on themselves.

Though it could also be stupidity :) as these women are very weak minded and immature.

"these girls, who are not satified with what Allah created"

who created?"?? i disagree with women getting the surgery, but perhaps your religeon can deal with it so wisely like youve done to women for so many other things, have them stoned to death in the public streets. Your male organ has eyes, two of em, you big dink! Your one to talk:

"Christinaity which gives the go-head for going against yourselves as well as against the human nature, this acts bespeaks that you lack some sense of humanity and only animals, so to speak , are able to show their organs to the world without feeling ashamed of themselves."

You who cover up women with rags so all you can see is thier eyeballs in fear when you threaten to kill them. Why don't you go to the desert and blow youreslf up for allah you nutcase!!!

first of all, these are not girls, they are bitches, and anyone can draw a line between the two. these girls, who are not satified with what Allah created, are psychologically-obssessed with their virgina. it is a mere psychological problem than looking for a good-looking virginia, who cares, male's organ does not have eyes and so does your piece of shit, it is a shame that you are a stone-faced alittle bitch. but it is the conons of Christinaity which gives the go-head for going against yourselves as well as against the human nature, this acts bespeaks that you lack some sense of humanity and only animals, so to speak , are able to show their organs to the world without feeling ashamed of themselves. cover your propery bitch,

People in essence, always detest that which they do not understand. That is why Max Webers theory of Verstehensoziologie is plausible since it seeks to understand people the way they would understand themselves. Your comment on the "muslim race" displays immense theological and historical ignorance but overall general impudence. :)

I have been very happily married to the same woman for almost twenty years and I would definitely not want her to receive labiaplasty. A woman's inner labia are absolutely beautiful- visually and sexually. The spreading of the inner labia resembles a beautiful orchid, especially when engorged during foreplay. Why anyone would want to cut off such beauty is incomprehensible to me.

I don't like that the filmaker is showing all these other vaginas and talking about being secure with what you've got, but she doesn't allow her vagina to be shown on camera. Other than pussy, british slang for a vagina is pretty dumb, bits sounds like food, it's a vagina-it's a pussy-
bits is very adolescent, dumbing it down for adults.

several mothers of other species do eat their young when born, though, something that humans tend to frown upon. also, as we usually only show our genitals to men, and men find an attractive appearance more important than we do (hence porn), they probably do have SOMETHING to do with our perception....

to bleed in wedding night is a culture and not related to religion. For an educated man, they should know that hymen can be broke by heavy exercise and accident.Man should believe in their partner and accept them the way she love him.Love with a certain condition will not last longerAlso Islam are very strict about sex without marriage because it have lot of danger than pleasure.

I felt a bit relieved to know that other women have issues about there genitals. However I would have liked to have seen more diversity in the women that were featured. I am mixed race and not one of the women shown looked even remotely close to the way my "lady bits" look.

If this bias film helped anyone I feel sorry for them . This is another feminist looking for a female problem she can blame on males. The entire time she was looking for a man to blame and when she found one she wanted to say to him the same thing she said she believed men were saying to women,a true femm.Women who do this for any other reason than they simply want it done, need theropy. This film exposes the lie that women are victims and because of that they can CHOOSE to do anything and blame it on men.The only specie on the planet that mothers kill their unborn young.

Helpful

I found this film really helpful!

Im not a dumb person, my parents are loving and supportive and i've always been able to openly talk about body image, sex and sexuality with them.

For some reason however, i've struggled with my own self esteem for years and years (i'm currently 24) and watching this and knowing i'm NOT alone is a very reassuring feeling.

So before you criticise this film like some have, perhaps consider that it may not have been made with someone like yourself in mind, but for someone like ME.

I also should add that just because some previous commenters have called the woman presenting this film as "ditzy" "misguided" etc... but please realise that this the reality of the world is that people dont always have the same upbringing or opportunities as others and just because someone is ditzy or misguided in your opinion, doesn't mean that they DESERVE to feel so bad about themselves to the point that they consider surgery to change themselves in an attempt to achieve a perfect body.

If watching this film stops just one person from getting surgery for the wrong reason then I think it was worth making.

Considering all of the above, it is interesting to hear all points of view on the film but I truly doubt that they were all critique as opposed to criticism.

I felt physically ill at the part Rosie pulled down her underwear and she was bleeding where she had the surgery. Just thinking about women cutting that part of themselves off is a creepy feeling especially since I am a woman myself. I don't think I can watch this entire thing without getting freaked out. ugh..

Here

The proliferation in our western cultures of Brazilian waxing, the lack of healthy boundaries, and the consumption of pornography by women are the cultural causes of this insecurity. Perhaps people can't handle certain freedoms? A possibly painful truth I have pondered recently. The older women from a more traditional down to earth generation were not the least bit concerned about their vagina's appearance. Women wouldn't need to sit around in a circle telling vagina stories if healthy boundaries had been there to start with. Maybe all of this deconstructed culture is catching up with us, Maybe past generations actually have practical knowledge? Maybe we should ask old people questions about how to live life?

Not really so much of a documentary, as just a rather ditzy middle-aged woman casually running around chatting with a few people. I'd say a solid 3 star effort.

Not that I would dare to assume that the women who have watched this video are even anywhere near as lacking in general intelligence as most of the women shown considering surgery... but fyi:

Ladies, your pubic areas are beautiful and highly arousing.
You really have nothing to worry about.

Lisa spends the documentary "freaking out over her own" vag because the documentary is about how backward it is that women freak out over their own vags. She says it the entire film; she's uncomfortable with the words for vaginas, she's uncomfortable talking to her mother about vaginas, etc. The film is about why most women feel ashamed of our own bodies, and she's asking it to herself as well as the people she interviews.

JJ, that was a sanctimonious, idoitic ramble that's disturbingly shallow, immature and ill-informed.

I seriously hope you are not exposing your children to your confusing views on this matter.
The only double standards we are talking about here (and which you seem to have totally missed the point of) is Lisa Rogers telling us that 'it doesn't matter what your vagina looks like', but spending the duration of the documentary freaking out over her own.

Greetings to all:

This is a good documentary to have in our society. It has become more and more about sex and appearances. I for one used porn to cope with my private bits to realize that there are a variety of different vaginas but the main issue is the psychological down poor on young woman who have been self conscious about their private parts. Due to male criticism and even female criticism.

WHY? What did you expect was going to happen? Our bodies are made to bear children for heavens sake! It is a crying shame to hear such things exist. But they do and if we aren't educated enough about ourselves and our body then it begs the underlying question of what is considered to be normal? Well, I'm sure many can answer that question for me.

Find yourselves first and be confident women! Truth is, Every girl has questioned themselves about their vaginas at one point in their life. Unfortunately society has made it so easy for teenage girls to go ahead with cosmetic surgery. Isn't it funny how many surgeons are dropping other medical fields to do this? Hey they make more money and aren't on call. Why not? Funny how I have seen only men preform such surgeries so far.

Wendy -

Variety is the spice of life.

Have you ever had a tummy bug instead of gastroenteritis?

Sometimes people just prefer other words. This wasn't a clinical study of the 'vulva'....it was a discourse on the 'fanny'.

I will leave the word 'vulva' in the doctor's office because I don't like the way it sounds.

I am very confused about some of the comments on here. Just because the reporter has outer beauty means she cannot understand inner beauty? B*llocks! The two do not have to be mutually exclusive. That is like saying that pretty women should not educate themselves and become smart and that smart women must inherently be ugly.

And what if she decided not to show her own fanny? Everyone has different comport levels. I can love what I have without showing it to the world. On the same note, I have friends who would think nothing of it. I think perhaps the fact that I have a son might sway that kind of decision for me. Perhaps I would have felt differently before I had him.

And I just have to have a laugh at the men who think it is a 'double standard'. Guess what mate? It's not all about your c*ck! The presenter didn't discuss woman's views on penis size.....because this is a documentary about fannys.

And for the record - just like these poor women who are misguided enough to think that a loving partner gives a toss about the appearance of their fanny - most men are quite misguided in their assumptions that women all want an 8" penis.

What is common between the concerns of men and women regarding their bits is that it seems to have some connections with pornography. Men want big willies because they see this in porn. Women want pre-pubescent looking fannys because this is what they see in porn. I'm not blaming the porn industry because I think that would be shooting the messenger - but I am wondering if this would have even been a concern for most people in the pre-photography era.

Anyhow, I thought this was an excellent documentary...and it made me think nice things about my fanny which I can think is only a good thing. Women are taught from a young age to hate themselves. Its nice to see a documentary that makes women feel happy with what they've got.

ladies, bottom line is your genitals are your genitals, not your boyfriends, not the porn industries, yours. i dont see the need to be so insecure over something a minority of people will ever see and ladies if a man gets into bed with you he isnt going to worry what you look like down there.
the vulva has become very tabboo ever since the instatement of oppressive regimes such as monotheistic religions, certain political structures, and its a crying shame as at the end of the day it is simply a body part.

I feel better about my vulva/vagina already. I hardly look at it and use to dislike my boyfriend seeing it. But that wall of vagina casts has made me realise mine actually looks quite good! Every time I watch porn with my partner, I start wondering "should mine be pink like theirs?" or "should I wax all the hair off?".. Now after seeing all the varying shades, shapes and size of flaps, I'm happy with what I got. Ladies, this is a must watch!

My god, after watching this, one thing is clear. Lisa Rogers is a superficial, sentimental fool. She's sending us massive mixed messages....on the one hand she's saying 'it doesn't matter what your vagina looks like.' And on the other, she can't bare to reveal her own vagina that she clearly feels insecure about.
She also probably spent hundreds of dollars on her haircut and is heavily made-up. Those scenes where she was crying were just not believable.....this person is horribly misguided.

This 'documentary' as a whole is a farce! I did enjoy the wall of vaginas though.

is it sexist or wrong if a women's "perfect penis" is 8 inches long, trimmed hair, etc?

First of all, let's stop calling women's external genitalia the "vagina". The vagina is an internal structure. What is on the outside is the vulva.

It seems that the porn industry has done its damage to both women's and men's ideas of what genitals should look like. Genitals vary as much from one individual to another as faces. You have what you have because you are unique.

The segment in the documentary about Muslim women deserves a documentary of its own. I pity any woman in Islam. They make them wear draperies and then kill them if they don't bleed on their wedding night.

I think that all vulvas are lovely and arousing. Keep the surgeon's knife away from your vulvas ladies.

In closing, the longer I live, the less I take my own species seriously.
