When I think about Gladiators, one of the first images to pop into my mind is Russell Crowe, battling it out in the 2000 film Gladiator. Winning an academy award for Best Picture and Best Actor, it was truly a great film, Russell Crowe was merely an added bonus. That being said, how realistic was that film? What happened to the many Gladiators after succumbing to their injuries following battles? For the first time in history, we might have our answer. Scientists believe they have discovered what they feel is a gladiator graveyard. It was uncovered in 2007 near Ephesus in Turkey, considered a major city of the Roman world. This documentary, Gladiator Graveyard takes viewers there, inside this mysterious gravesite. Following extensive analysis of the bones discovered, the injuries are revealing a new insight into how these Gladiators lived, fought and later died.

In Roman times Gladiators were considered to be the sports heroes and archaeological records are now revealing they were highly celebrated during those times. These revolutionary discoveries include bones and other remains, all of which will give the scientists new material to work with. This new graveyard will allow experts to learn more about these arena heroes.

Take a trip to the Gladiator Graveyard in the fascinating documentary of the same name.
