Have you noticed the Sun has been shining less frequently? What could that mean? I’m not referring to the Spring season bringing us many dark, rainy days and old man Winter clouding our skies with snow. In general, we are all seeing less of the Sun than ever before.

In this brief documentary, Global Dimming viewers will see that scientists have been examining approximately five decades of sunlight measurements. Their conclusions are a little unnerving, as they have uncovered that the amount of solar energy reaching the Earth’s surface has been falling gradually. This is baffling information and could prove that global warming is a much greater threat to society than we ever imagined.

Global Dimming focuses on observations by scientists from the 1950s to present day. It features the reduction of the irradiance on the earth. It is this disturbing dimming which is believed to have been the cause of the aerosols on earth’s atmosphere to increase. Reduced rainfall throughout the world may have been caused by global dimming as well. Overall the documentary, examines whether it could even be the cause of global warming throughout the rest of the world.

A great documentary for anyone interested in the disturbing facts surrounding global warming.

oh man… same thing will happen to earth… we're gonna be the next mars!
it fits perfectly. I bet there was life on mars before but it froze. who knows… when earth runs out of sun, maybe mercury and venus will be the next "earth"

This will all happen in about 25 years, huh? Well, if ObamaCare passes tonight I probably won't be alive then, so I'm not going to worry about it. But pity those who are still alive!

Great documentary! Very informative and easy to understand, as well to comprehend the future possibility! Incredible!

what i think is there was a claim that there is nothing like global warming as climate was not showing the temperature increase as it is supposed to increase as CO2 increases. I believed it bcoz for last 7 8 years temperature was going down. Now this shows why. Global dimming was protecting us in one way even if it was harming us in other way. I am from India and I know in my life time (20 years) there is considerable decrease in monsoon shower. So, we have to do something to decrease the CO2 production. OR I dont know it can sound stupid, we can make some devise which convert co2 back to oxygen by some chemical reaction. It wont effect economy as much and can help us solve the problm

This explains why it’s been so cold here in Sydney (Australia) this winter. In June we had one of the coldest days in 60 years. Some places were minus 0 degree Celsius. It’s extremely rare to see that type of temperature in suburban areas (you might find it in mountain regions and Tasmania) and it started to make people wonder “Where is global warming??”.

This film also mentioned the evaporation rates going down in Australia (less water evaporated in pans). It coincides with the severe droughts we experienced in many parts of the country since the 90′s. The droughts only briefly stopped in early 2000 and again just recently. I wonder if flights being canceled due to 9/11 and the Eyjafjallajokull volcano had anything to do with it.

You wanna know where global warming is?
      Portugal!
We have had one of the hottest months in, I cant even remember how long, with the highest temperatures, on average, above 40 degrees celcius during the day (and I mean 36+ at 9am already) and sometimes over 25 degrees during the night on coastal areas. Some places here have already hit 50+ degrees this summer.

You know where that’s normal? In the African savanas! Not on a moderate mediterranean climate country.

And yes, 2 years ago it snowed here during the winter.
Now dont tell me tha isn’t some crazy weather.

    • Tiago C.

Btw i should have also mentioned that snow, where I live, is a 1 in 50 years kind of phenomenon.

    • (just a) FROG on the LOG

Yup – here too (Michigan USA & part time San Diego CA).
Now, I have no opinion to express on the “global warming” debate, but I’m all ready to chime in on “the weather is damn FUNKY” conversation!

      in MI:
      * last month was hottest July ever…EVER!
      * 4 yrs ago 2nd COLDEST winter… EVER
      * last year it rained EVERY SINGLE DAMN DAY in October
      * 2 yrs ago most snow ever: 96 in (244 cm). An average winter might be 70 in (178 cm)
      * 4 yrs ago we had measurable snow fall in the month of MAY! (umm…thats almost summer) This year – same thing. 3 days later it was 82F (28C)

      in SD:
      * Six of San Diego’s 10 wettest winters have been in the past 13 years (recorded since 1890)
      * we had some measurable rainfall for 22 of Februarys 28 days – the most ever. Second most is 17 days, and average is 10 days.
      * numerous intense thunder / lightning storms Dec, Jan, Feb (and I had never seen T/L storms there before, even once, in 15 years! Except in the desert)

I feel very sorry for all the wild animals that these fluctuations must play havoc on. Not to mention, nearly all species of bugs are different here now than those that I knew, my mother knew, and even grandmother knew as a child. And forget about snakes, salamanders, turtles, and many kinds of frogs – Gone! I NEVER see them anymore (and our family property has remained basically the same for 100 years).

      Strange days indeed

    • Tiago C.

Yup strange indeed. And we got front seats! ^^

I’d also like to remember that a couple of years ago it snowed…near the Sahara (can’t remember exactly the name of the place) but the locals there didn’t even had a word to describe “snow” in their native language that’s how rare that was.
And I just saw a picture from last week, of some people in Siberia taking a bath…… inside a GLACIAR! Because it was too damn hot, lol!
In Russia this morning there were 500 forest fires burning and an already HUGE burnt area from fires since last week.
Last week temperatures (in Moscow if I’m not mistaken) were above 35ºC (95ºF).
And at the same time. on the other side of the world, in Pakistan, 800 (EIGHT HUNDRED) people died last month in the worst floods ever in the country!

About global warming, I dont know, maybe we get these ups and downs before it tilts one side or the other. Whatever the case we might be able to even see it happen.
