May 1st, 1945 marked a significant day in history. At last the Allies managed to break into a bunker where they had thought Hitler was hiding. What they found was the Dictator, already dead in his secluded mountain retreat in Bavaria. America’s Office of Strategic Services were searching for evidence regarding Nazi war crimes and discovered a large archive of Hitler’s private home movies, but were they enough? Were these movies the proof in which the OSS was looking for?

Unfortunately these newly discovered films had no sound, making them useless to put forth as evidence for war crimes. The private home videos remained archived for several years after they were found. Combining the use of skilled lip readers and 20th Century technology these movies were reopened and we now have a better understanding of what was being said.

Hitler Speaks: Hitler’s Private Movies brings viewers inside these private movies for an in-depth look into the personal life one of the most despised men in history. This is a great film for anyone interested in Hitler. These unique films reveal a side of this man in which no one has ever seen. It brings us inside Hitler’s private life, that until now we have been unable to fully examine.

Really excellent documentary. The research that made this technology possible is genius.

I loved the part where Hitler and his aides were standing on the balcony remarking on their brand new camera. They looked then just like men do today surrounded by their buddies fiddling with an IPhone.

I guess the male admiration for new technology is timeless.

Oh, but don’t let that detract from the fact that he was a genocidal maniac.

I have seen this doc a few times and it is great! The footage that they found was unbelieveable, but now to have voices added to it makes all the difference, especially of the voice recording from the train.

Normally, I am not into where technology is taking and destroying this world in so many ways, but when it gets used like this (or medical etc) I am all for it. It is advancing and educating in ways that could have never been if not for this program they used.

      5/5

      Highly recommended

Now THIS is a documentary! Simply fascinating. Excellent pick for posting, and thank you for doing so.

      Great idea, bad execution.
      1. They waste three quarters of the documentation with boring stuff everyone has seen hundreds of times before.
      2. That guy who dubbed Hitler is obviously not a native speaker. I, as a German, actually had to read the subtitles to understand anything because of his accent. Also the parts I understood didn’t match the subtitles (“An exceptional lens.” “Vastly superior.” ["Haushoch überlegen."] WTF?)

Thank you for the head’s-up. I won’t waste my time with this one. I have not been making good picks all day for some reason. Ha! :)
