Technology continues to progress and with it so should its security. But what if it were possible for teenagers to hack into some of the most technical and confidential systems in the world? The truth is this is possible and did happen. In the Realm of the Hackers is based on the Electron and Phoenix, two Australian teenagers who were only caught due to arrogance.

The year was 1989, two Melbourne teen hackers stole a restricted computer security list. With it, Electron and Phoenix managed to break into some of the world’s most secure and classified computer systems. The attack happened so fast and was so widespread, that no one was able to figure out something of this magnitude could have happened. Phoenix and Electron were quickly considered a severe threat as they drew attention from the United States Secret Service and FBI.

It wasn’t until one of the hackers, out of only arrogance I can presume, called the New York Times to brag that they were caught. An unnerving reality that authorities were unable to catch them prior to this. Ten years following Electron and Phoenix’s arrest, In the Realm of the Hackers uncovers how these two teens did it and why.
