Jack the Ripper, he’s one of the most notorious murderers in history, he’s also one of the most mysterious. Decades after the heinous crimes were committed, scientists, detectives and average people are still fascinated with his killings. Approximately over a dozen books are published each year about Jack the Ripper and who many believe he really was. There have also been several films produced about this murderer.

The crimes were committed in 1888 and to date, they still remain insolvable. One theory points toward Walter Sickert who was an artist with a dark side as being the man responsible for these murders, but was it really him? Many dismiss this theory saying it was impossible for him to have been behind the killings as he was actually in France at the time.

In this interesting documentary, Jack the Ripper the theory surrounding Sickert is put to the test using modern technology that didn’t exist in the 1800′s. Combining the use of modern DNA analysis and handwriting analysis, Jack the Ripper’s true identity is hopefully revealed. The documentary also uses special effects, animation and CGI to take viewers on an in-depth investigation of the Jack the Ripper murders. Will they finally uncover who this murderer really was?

Well, my first thought was, this wasn't very good. Much speculation and stretching of the facts. Then I had a chance to think it over and I suppose it's about as good as it can be. Sufficient facts to draw a reasonable conclusion simply do not exist. So, I really didn't learn anything, but that is because there is nothing there to learn.

Decent film. I liked Cornwell's book, and her theory about Sickert. Mainly because of the letters that seem to have come from Sickert and that she traces other murders after the Ripper spree to locations where Sickert went.

Unless the Ripper died soon after his last (attributed) victim, it is highly unlikely he would have stopped killing. His pattern may have changed some, but I know of no case where a serial killer just stops of their own accord.

"Sickert was an icon in Britain" Bollocks.

Like hell it was Sickert. Cornwell’s completely out of her mind. If you watch her documentary “Jack the Ripper: Case Closed” she is really annoying and manipulative. Okay: Sickert was a practical joker, he was interested in the murders, he had a morbid imagination–that means NOTHING. And she’s so stuck on the idea that it might have been him that she sees no one else’s theories. “…if someone found an old cloth in their attic that belonged to Sickert–(loud annoyed groan goes here) with blood on it, blah, blah…” Seriously. There are other suspects.

here here, as Cornwells theory is based solely on the fact that Sickert killed out of frustration due to his physical abnormalities that prevented him from having sexual relations…. i am Walter Sickerts great granddaughter so the simple fact that i exist blows her theory to pieces….
