Microcosmos is a wonderfully entertaining and educational documentary film presented by Claude Nuridsany and Marie Pérennou and was shown during the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. It is a unique presentation on the life of the insects, in that its told in a lyrical way through music, slow motion depiction, time-lapse and close-ups. The documentary includes a presentation to how the bees gather nectar, or how snails or ladybugs mate, and spiders trapped their prey in its web. The documentary also explores the activities of the caterpillars and the scarab beetles.

This film is unlike any other documentary you have seen about insects. At the time of its presentation, Microcosmos has won numerous awards in the film festival, namely Best Cinematography, Best Music and Best Editing, among others.

Don't let the French at the beginning throw you off. There is no narration, so even if you don't speak or can't read French you can still enjoy the film. It was great and has a lot of unique footage.
