Montezuma

This documentary is a profile on one of the Aztecs greatest rulers, Montezuma II, who ruled five million people in his empire. History books depicted him as somewhat of a weakling and lacking decision skills, and his reign as the ruler was marred by incessant warfare.
Yet, history also has revealed contradicting stories about Montezuma (or Moctezuma in other countries). Some have described him as a superstitious man, who was quite ruthless and pitiless. He also believed that he was a god and that the only way for his empire to keep its hold, especially with the Spaniards coming in, was to rule this by fear.
Yet, it was his relationship with the Spaniards that actually led to his downfall. Montezuma developed a bond with Hernando Cortes, the Spaniard expeditioner who acted as mediary between Montezuma and the Spanish royalty.
This documentary outlines the life of Montezuma, as presented by Dan Snow. Are the history books accurate of how they pictured the ruler? Was his relationship with Cortes partly responsible for the downfall of the Aztecs?
The documentary also takes viewers to ruins in Mexico, where Dan Snow will try to piece together the stories form this lost civilization.
