The idea that there is a parallel universe that exists can be mind-boggling and baffling. But scientists insists that this is possible and true. And that this parallel universe actually exists just merely one millimeter away from where we are.  And scientists also say that there may be more than one parallel universe, only we live in just one.

The parallel universe apparently also have time and space, and even forms of humans, or slightly similar humans. And our version of ourselves in this universe is a slightly different version of us.

It is a crazy suggestion. It’s stuff that seems to made from great science fiction stories. But apparently, these scientists have found clues based on our gravity, which they think leaks the signals from the rest of these universe.

This BBC documentary explores the theory of parallel universes, and attempts to to explain why scientists think there is such a world like it. What is in this parallel universe and how does it relate to the world as we know it? Can this help us understand the cosmos better? Can it provide a clearer explanation to the string theory and the rest of quantum mathematics?

Fantastic! one of the best docs on string theory and its practical implications i've seen on this site by far!!

mombo jombo bs. how did the original waves originate? prove that and then maybe ill buy into this.

HOLY S**T Thats some serious stuff. ZOMG

I agree. Im widely open to new ideas and theories. But i find this one hard to grasp. Wot created the membranes

    • Bendik

BBC removed their videos. Shows that they only care about the money, not educating the proles ^^ They still make good docs tho'.

The possibility that the membranes were created in the first place, doesnt dismiss the possibility that our universe may have been created after them, and that we might be able to look beyond the big-bang. But with this theory, the definite origin of all things remains unexplained, because sooner or later you´ll hit the same paradigm. What caused the membranes to exist?

    • nich

Why do the membranes have to have been created? Maybe they already existed in a different form, and coalesced into membranes. And, more locally, the singularity of our universe could simply be a rebirth of itself, from the other end on the 11th dimension. Like a soap bubble being sucked into one end of a straw, only to emerge as an expanding bubble on the other end.
In fact, black holes could be a physical manifestation of the 11th dimension, sucking in our membranes and spitting out new ones on the other side.
Or, it could all be a bunch of hooey! :)

Problem I find is that there's so much you need to learn in maths, physics, chemistry and all the rest of it, that it's only so hard to believe these docs because you don't know as much as they do. You just fundamentally don't get it!

      They're your teacher's teacher's teacher.

Would be nice to have interactive docs that you could pause the doc, or lesson, and check out the Wikipedia page for something you want to reference to.

That's what i've been doing,Dan. If i just watch something in live time on tv a lot goes swooooosh over my head before i can give it any contemplation. Here, i watch interesting stuff like this and sometimes pause or go back to rewatch bits and also sometimes look up bits and pieces that seemed unclear. Amazing times we'e in.

There are a few docs I watched over and over just to get my brain used to some of the odd concepts found in them.
When things aren't obvious at first, repiti-ti-ti-tion is a "proved to work strategy".
It's time consuming… but it's really worth it if you feel you must understand. Of course, re-re-re-reading also works.
It took us centuries to come up with modern (often counter-intuitive) physics, it's no wonder no-one gets it at first glance.

      Best of patience ;^)

if are an infinite of universes, should not suppose to be at list one universe in witch a civilization found the way to contact us?

    • The Tay

Have you at least found one way of traveling in time? or even space? you make it sound so simple. poor universes, being victimized for not finding a way to contact us. tsk tsk.

    • physicon

I completely agree. that is why I and a number of colleagues at MIT have devised the barrier theory which implies that all universes are divided by a metaphysical barrier that when breached can only result in the conscious observer entering a parallel universe in which they create solely through observation. It still needs some work but we believe i could be a big step to understanding parallel realities in the future.

BBC Sucks!!!! They have this removed cause of copyrights, but then dont have the doco on their web site for viewing. Tight arses!!
