The BBC sparks controversy with this documentary as reporter John Sweeney travels to the United States to explore whether the Church of Scientology is becoming more mainstream. As part of the Panorama series it sparked conflict before and during filming as there were unresolved issues between Scientology members and Sweeney’s production team. The Scientology members did not want perceived enemies of the church to included or interviewed for the film. The controversial film explores whether the Church of Scientology deserves it’s sinister reputation. Covering all the bases, Scientology and Me features interviews with celebrities and “regular” people involved with the church. John Travolta is one of the stars featured in the film. He then moves on to interview a mother who’s daughter chose to distance herself from the family after joining the church. Referred to as “Disconnect” in the church, Sweeney examines this concept.

Scientology and Me is an in-depth look inside the Church of Scientology. It explores their beliefs, the controversy surrounding the church and the people who are members. I found the documentary to be fascinating as Scientology is not something I am familiar with. That being said, I don’t think I will be joining anytime soon, but for the many members they do have, I feel it’s too each their own. Religion is a debate regardless of which you believe in.

Tommy needs help, very arrogant. I never have seen something so utterly ridiculous before. The BBC did not appear hostile in anyway, that appeared on camera. If this so called religion seems only want to express that everyone's elses opinion are insulting, they should have representative that displays intelligence in disputing "cult" claims, not some snot nose arrogant "Tommy" who lets his emotions get in the way of "outsiders" tryng to educate people on just what exactly Scientogy is!!!

    • lalala

This is absolutely insane. I feel like I zipped right back to high school. Drama, drama, drama. Tommy's tactics are extremely immature, defensive, and RIDICULOUS!!! He makes me sick. I don't blame the BBC journalist for freaking out. It's completely respectable. I want to join scientology (Wow I can't believe this turns up spelled incorrectly without a capital 's') just so I can laugh at their silly propaganda in their faces. Usually I would never think about denouncing anyone or provoking trouble because of someones beliefs, because after all, to each his own… But seriously, come on?!

    • The Stand-in-awe-man

I find it rediculous that this discussion of scientology even exists.. "Who in their right mind" is a question that kept popping up in my head. People are morons and it seems, were not really going anywhere..

To the owner of this site / video beware. Tommy might come in wearing black and white suit with Will Smith. He might zap your minds out. haha this cult is so sick. oops sorry for saying cult. but i challenge them to track me down come on my doorstep and certainly, ill join the ALIENHOOD! Hail ET. Hail Jor El. Hail!

Scientology is just like all the other religions except Scientology hasn't been domesticated yet: a bunch of delusional nonsense that could be swept away by a little bit of critical thinking. I think we should treat religions (all of them) like any other business: same tax rules, same false advertising rules, etc.

    • ms

I don't blame him (the BBC filmmaker) for losing it with Davis. These people are beyond scary, beyond creepy, beyond reason. They make most cults look like Romper Room.

    • Bendik

Who in their right mind would what? Believe in some alien omntipotent creatue whose existence can't be proved?

Pay a large amount of money for salvation?

Believe in some congenital defect (in Christianity: SIN) that can only be purged away by worshipping a lot of rubbish?

Blindly follow a set of rules written by a science fiction author (who are YOU to determine what is hole and what is just plain immagination?(The Scientology "commandments" are ONLY CONTRIBUTING TO A BETTER SOCIETY anyway).

This "religion" does in no way differ from Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

    • Cogitoergosum

Crazy ppl, I feel like joining the demostrations against this stupid CULT. I also thought that Juliette Lewis was more intelligent, very disappointing.

    • Andrew

I don't blame the author either for freaking out. If it was me, I'd probably flatten the bloke's face right there on the spot. Slimy overconfident imbeciles like Tommy make me sick, people like this should be treated in mental institutions.
Anyway, VERY interesting documentary, I found it hard to believe what I had seen actually. This sect or whatever is behaving much like a mafia. Threatening people, robbing them of their free will to speak, pulling money out of their wallets, I mean cmon, every man with at least 2 brain cells functioning has to recognize the magnitude of this worldwide money scam. Apparently, Hollywood is not a place with high concentration of brain cells, especially Tom Cruise imo.

What can really be done about the Church of Scientology?
Should the public just be informed and be aware?
Should people write to sponsors of movies featuring Scientology celebs, notifying them that their products will be boycotted?

    • Jack Kebek

No matter how rich, beautiful and popular, deep down scum of the earth remain scum of the earth.

Those people are an insult even to what they "believe" they are and what they claim they fight. Talk about being "dichotomic".

    • Constant Learner

That scientology guy is a complete ass and I don't understand how people could honestly take him seriously as he interrupts and doesn't make any sense when making his "rebuttals" (if they even can be called that).

    • tim

yeah you people think scientology is ridiculous but as an agnostic i can see how ridiculous every other religon is. do you really believe a guy lived in a whale for three days or that there was a talking snake in the garden of eden or that some guy turned water into wine

    • Ciph3r

Wow, that Tommy guy is an idiot. I guess his technique is attempted intimidation as reasonable explanation would fail due to the nature of their laughable made up stories. And they laugh at the stories that were used a few years ago as the base of their sect.

I does somewhat work like the MAFIA, but nothing compared to it. Try setting up a large church in Milano or Rome and step on some toes.. see how that goes. lol.

Religion (aka brainwashing) of any kind proves yet again to be a dumb way to control smart people. The more educated you become the more obvious this seems, unless you have been indoctrinated with it from before which makes it harder to impossible to be objective.

Even if all religions are made up, which is true in my opinion (), sometimes they get people to do good things. This one looks different.. like the mob.. if you want out they 'destroy' you.. hence the CULT label.

It doesn't surprise me though. The founder probably thought it was a good laugh, and these people are now taking it seriously. Also unsurprising, there are 700 branches of Christianity, all with different views, and even their Bibles (the one book it's based on) have differences. So not much more plausible in the end. lol. Enough said.

    • dwyane shaw

Scientology, like all religions is nonsense and supposition presented as unassailable fact. But, I think, they have every right to investigate people that investigate them. What's troubling is that they deny doing it- which makes one wonder about sinister intentions

    • MarkT

Cult! Cult! Cult! Cult! Cult! Cult! Cult!

    • Dan Bartz

I think Tommy appears to be the biggest asshole trying to be tom cruise haha! He obnoxiously gets in your face, forces his words, then walks waway before anyone can reply, He obviousely has alot to hide and is a complete ass hole CULT!!!

    • cody cooley
