Austrian psychiatrist Sigmund Freud founded the school of psychology. He is best known for his theories surrounding the unconscious mind and the defines mechanism of restraint. He also developed the clinical practice of psychoanalysis to cure psychopathology via dialogue between patient and psychoanalyst. Freud is an icon for his work and his story is a remarkable one. This documentary, Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) examines his life and the many successes he achieved throughout it. Not only is he renowned for the above mentioned theories but he also redefined sexual desire as the main motivational energy of human life. His therapeutic methods, inclusive of using free association and his views of transference in a reparative relationship have been attributed to a lot of his success.

Freud also offered an interesting perspective of our dreams as a source of insight into our unconscious desires. Those dreams we have each night have an underlying meaning. We sometimes use them as a way to exercise something that outside of the world of dreams we would be unable to achieve. Everything from winning a gold medal to our hidden sexual desires.

As if that isn’t enough for one to achieve in his career, Freud was also one of the early neurological  researchers into cerebral palsy. This is his fascinating story.

This was great I needed it for a paper on the comparison of his theory to the short story of "Oedipus Rex". This was a great resource thank you!

Too much silent camera work. I didn't want to see a visual documentary on architecture and landscape. This could have been 15 min.

Yes, I’m married, but that doesn’t mean I’m old or ultra-conservative or a prude, as you put it. I think you’d be surprised at the number of young people out there who want to wait, who respect themselves and others more, and above all honor God. I coach a high school track team and it is amazing how many of them are quite verbal about wanting to wait. I think it’s honorable.
