Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets

This fictional story gives viewers an inside look at a space mission through the eyes of five astronauts. They embark of a six-year mission to examine the many new frontiers of the mysterious solar system. Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets uncovers the spectacle and dangers in which these five astronauts must endure when landing and exploring these unfamiliar worlds.
Combining the use of feature film digital effects and the latest scientific findings this film provides us with the ultimate grand tour of their mission. Space Odyssey brings it all to life in this remarkable and moving film complete with excitement and dangers.
Divided into two parts this program highlights the many risks that are involved with extensive space missions around the Solar System. The mockumentary premiered in 2004 and was created by the BBC. Produced by Christopher Riley, it was written and directed Joe Ahearne. Riley was presented with the Sir Arthur Clarke Award for Best TV & Radio Presentation in 2005.
The actors underwent basic cosmonaut training at Star City with the Russian space program in order to prepare them for the roles. A lot of the scenes throughout this fascinating movie were filmed in simulated zero-gravity aboard the Russian llyushin II-76 aircraft.
