Taxi To The Dark Side

“Taxi to the Dark Side” is a documentary film presented in 2007 by Alex Gibney. It’s main theme gives focus on the death of an Afghan taxi driver named Dilawar, who sadly, has been beaten to death by American soliders. Dilawar was held at a detention cell in the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan and had been there for questioning.
Although considered a suspect, Dilawar ‘s death was unjust and this is what the film hopes to examine and expose. It has been made controversial because the filmmakers were able to include actual images of Dilawar, while at detention, bearing his bruises and wounds from the torture.
The use of torture as a means of interrogation, especially in highly sensitive missions like the war, is being challenged by this documentary. Is it just and should military personals, CIA and other units be allowed to continue with its exploits?
Torture inhibits sensory deprivation and when going overboard, such as in this case, can result to murder. The Geneva Convention forbids this practice, but even movies and TV shows like 24 still depicts this, as if it’s ordinary and common in any authorities’ line of work.
“Taxi to the Dark Side” was included in Oscar’s shortlist of Best Documentary Feature in 2007.
