“Taxi to the Dark Side” is a documentary film presented in 2007 by Alex Gibney. It’s main theme gives focus on the death of an Afghan taxi driver named Dilawar, who sadly, has been beaten to death by American soliders. Dilawar was held at a detention cell in the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan and had been there for questioning.

Although considered a suspect, Dilawar ‘s death was unjust and this is what the film hopes to examine and expose. It has been made controversial because  the filmmakers were able to include actual images of Dilawar, while at detention, bearing his bruises and wounds from the torture.

The use of torture as a means of interrogation, especially in highly sensitive missions like the war,  is being challenged by this documentary. Is it just and should military personals, CIA and other units be allowed to continue with its exploits?

Torture inhibits sensory deprivation and when going overboard, such as in this case, can result to murder. The Geneva Convention forbids this practice, but even movies and TV shows like 24 still depicts this, as if it’s ordinary and common in any authorities’ line of work.

“Taxi to the Dark Side” was included in Oscar’s shortlist of Best Documentary Feature in 2007.

Glad this cowboy goverment is on there way out. Obama gives everyone fresh hope. Impeace Bush and his group of bandits. Bring those f**kers to justice.

We wonder why they behead our people, what do you expect. The West is worst than the terrorists.

      Guys, calm down. ;-)

Everybody has good reasons for not liking Bush, but we should try to stay constructive.

    • Rex

lol, anyone who thinks Obama is going to be able to change anything are deluding themselves. Politicians dont run a country, faceless people do. It's been like this in the west since the doomsday book was drawn up.

and you americans still call bush your president?

      he will never be judged?

killers rom free in your country?

and you americans after knowing that bush lied all the way chose him for 2nd time.

I am a very peaceful man,but what you have done you should be punished for that.

did anyone care about Dilawar's children, why should anyone care for your children.

people you killed or captured were innocent civilians(about 90%).

the real taliban are still there and you still fight them and you will fight them till last of your days.the people you captured and tortured were those who belived in you, that they have done nothing wrong but they still got tortured by you.

nothing can bring back the lifes or suffering of people.no matter how much money how much aid.

so when your children will die in street because of a bomb, dont cry.accept your punishment.

The only thing what bugs me is that the film makers are also americans, the people who care, who know that their govt have done wrong.who try to wake you up.

May Allah bless yous souls, every vote every penny, which you spent on bush and his govt is a sin which sooner or later will come back to you.you who chose a devil to be your presedent, for 2 times.(think about it).

its people like you who make a diffrence.

read my comment, its harsh, but true.

      Nasir,
Salaam and happy Ramadan. We all know that Bush lied to us. Do you really think our elections here in the US have anything to do with the voters? Bush stole the election just like Ahmadenijad in Iran. What can the people really do? The average American NEVER sees what is going on in Aghanistan and muslim lands. Our leaders point out all the bad things Muslims do, but never point out what they do as well. If they showed us the truth of what our bombs do to the civilians in these countries, the outcry of the American people would be so intense that our government would very probable be toppled. So they keep us in the dark, feed our children video games and porno, distract us. Is it our fault….yes!
And don't worry Nasir about Bush being judged by Americans. We don't matter, do we? Almighty Allah will judge Bush, Obama (the biggest liar of all), and all the people who contribute to the destruction. So when I get really upset about all this crap, I just leave it up to Allah to sort it out in the end….for it is Allah's will, and it has been written. Peace

      Sharon
Salaam to you,and thank you for replying,
I do understand that election can be rig,but there was a lot of news, documentaries etc,so a simple american could understand what the real deal is.
still people like you,and their voice tells us that everything is not so bad, there are people who understand and are working to get things right.
I use to say,if I am alone then its nothing, but when there will be 100 like me that will make a difference.
I will like ask you about your origin.

im an american, if i had my way the entire Bush administration (everyone of them that can be linked to encouraging torture) would be sentenced to life in prison.

And every member of congress, republican or democrat, that was told of the torture techniques being used and remained silent would join them.

But this is the reason nothing will be done about these outrageous crimes. If we prosecute Bush, Cheney, Rice, and Rumsfeld (etc), Pulosi, and other democrats complicity would be exposed as well.

In a two party system (which George Washington strongly warned us against in his farewell address)all the power is in the hands of just two factions. when top members of both factions are guilty, no one with the power to do anything is left to hold them accountable.

I used to think we might eventually rise above our history of oppression and abuse, that I might eventually have cause to love my country instead of being ashamed at how we continually fall short of the founding ideals I love. no more
