The witch hunts aren’t distant memory: only a few hundred years from today people – especially women – were burned alive for being witches. Europe was all a-tizzy over the proliferation of witches. Accusations (we will assume they were false) and the trials (not that they were very fair: throw the witch in the water. If she sinks, she’s innocent. If she floats: drown her) let to massive burnings at the stake, torture, and the destruction of families and communities. The directors asks the simple question: is there a connection to be made between modern day violence against women and those heretic days of yore?

The answer is emphatically No. The best and most underrated documentaries on this subject are made by the Germans, unfortunately I can’t remember what they’re called. But in essence all this feminist garbage has nothing to do with real research and the realities behind episodes like this – in fact most of the victims were children, often sacrificed by their own mothers (Witch Children of Africa anyone) – but no-one in suburban fairy-land talks about that now do they? It’s like Alice Miller never existed.

         Hi Ash,
I’d love to find some of those German documentaries to put up here, so that people can see them. Any idea what they’d be called?

I found this and I believe it’s the one I saw:

          http://www.oakandmistletoe.com.au/forum/witches-myth-mystery-and-truth

It was broadcast on SBS Australia:

          http://www.sbs.com.au/

I can’t find much more than that, except a page on the SBS site in Chinese. You’ll notice the above is a Wiccan site, that in itself I find very interesting considering their enthusiasm about the doco.

             Thanks! Very interesting, indeed. :)
