The Commercialization of Childhood

Multi-billion dollar industries seem to know the perfect target market and consumer base. They blatantly dangle their products in order to get this market’s attention. This market are the children. And these industries know exactly how to convince them to purchase what they sell.
They make everything from food, to gadgets, to video games and educational products that are either bad for the children’s health, promote violence, or are actually bogus and do not really help the kids with their learning and progress.
Kids by nature are drawn to anything new and they can convincingly push their parents to get what they want, even if the item or product has no total value to it.
This documentary is an expose on how industries make no qualms about selling to kids using attractive marketing strategies. It is backed up by insight from insiders of the industry as well as psychiatrists and health professionals dealing with children. What are the effects of this commercialization to the kids? What are its long term impacts? Where is the ethics of this kind of industry?
The purchasing power of children, in America specifically, has grown significantly. It’s a billion-dollar industry that now raises a lot of questions from adults concered for the children’s welfare and development.
