      Near Death Experience or NDE….scientists say that they are the result of brain activity, even after the person has been technically dead. But is this possible? Can our consciousness remain active, even after the brain has stopped working?

      This documentary explores the different case studies of Near Death Experiences, with insights from people who have had cardiac arrests and attest to an out-of-body experience.

      The research has grown controversial because the study into NDE is hard to verify and ascertain. Skeptics do not believe the hypothesis of science, where it appears that the brain and the mind are not of two separate functioning, thus some have experienced this phenomenon.

      This feature provides fascinating information to our human anatomy, but as it is controversial, this documentary is presented with two sides of the argument — on the side of the believer on the side of the skeptics.

      Trippy, and well delivered for something so out there. I don't see why the BBC had a problem with it. Personally if I don't scoff aloud more than 3 times, who cares if it's strange?

      I love this doc. It is a reminder for me of what is the truth spiritually. I've had an out of body experience very similar to NDE's that I accessed via transcendental meditation. Especially the warmth and love and the sense of being "spoken" to or guided. I also think the brain is a receiver (or interpreter) of consciousness… rather than it being believed to be the producer of consciousness. When you leave the body and increase in awareness… it just …it changes you and how you think about what you are beyond this bag of bones.

      I simply cannot understand why the BBC would not allow a reshowing or DVD of this incredible look at near death expeririances and the intriguing possiblity of mind separate from brain. We are such neophytes in our study of mind/brain. How fascinating to think a new scientific study area could come from this. Thanks so much for keeping this series alive.

      Its Wonderfull…This documentary brings a great feeling of confidence for people who believe in life after death and who believe in God. It proves that we will be rewarded an eternal peace and harmony for our good deeds and off-course will also be punished for bad ones. It also alarms us about the mortality of this material world and reminds us about the true purpose of our creation which is pretty much clear to all i.e. to worship our creater (The One and Only God) and spread peace and love among ourselves. God has given his signs all around us about His existance and His Unity. And now its upto us that how we recognize our God and how we fulfil our duties.

      Excellent …intelligent and deeply
      thoughtful presentation. I've read
      a fair amount on the subject of NDE's
      (including Moody's Life After Life) but
      this was really fascinating to watch and
      hear other people's stories ..and to
      learn about some of the current
      scientific research that is going on
      relating to mind and consciousness.

      These near death experiences are nothing more than hallucinations from the brain as it is starved of oxygen.

      I don’t get it. This was a fascinating documentary, which documented the testimonies of various witnesses … with multiple objective attestations from medical professionals who were involved with them. Why is the BBC afraid of being accused of supporting “fringe” theories? There are lots and lots of “fringe” theories which the BBC is not afraid of documenting, including many themes withing the paranormal and occult genres.

      It is common knowledge that the producer of a documentary does not necessarily support the views recorded. Sorry, but such super-sensitivity is beyond logic!

      Most of the parts are blocked by copyright now.
      From what I have seen, I still don’t believe in any of the spiritual nonsense. It is completely explainable from a neuroscience point of view. Speaking of which, of the experts I saw, there was a cardiologist and a Professor of Psychiatry. Not really experts in the actual function of the brain. Of course I may have missed something in the missing parts. I’d love to see the guy talking about Quantum World.

      A dying persons experiences isn’t proof in the actual sense.

      @ Cobus – I read that the British doctor researching NDEs has more or less changed his mind about the subject. Now negative about this being real.

      The power of the medical and scientific establishment to make their people conform is massive. I guess he’s been got at. He wants a long and happy career??

      Someone in this doc has withdrawn their permission. For some reason. Whoever it is has a lot of power behind him – or her.

      There is logic in this withdrawal. But it’s covert.

      (BTW – still available on the tube.)
