The Fog of War

Released in 2003, “The Fog of War” is from Robert S. McNamara, the former Secretary of Defense who has served two Presidents, John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. “Fog of War” is a military term which means a time of uncertainty during battle. Screened during the Cannes Film Festival in 2003, this actually won the Best Documentary Feature at the Oscars on the same year.
In this film, the former Secretary of Defense is profiled and he talks about his early beginnings, first as a soldier who worked as a bombing statistician during the Second World War. He recalls how he was regarded as the Whiz Kid and also shares stories about this war that shaped the world.
He also shares his life as the President of Ford Motors, which he briefly served, before becoming part of President Kennedy’s team. Here he shares the administration’s success in combat.
The film’s primary focus, however, is to explore the lessons McNamara has learned from his stint as one of the war leaders. The man talked about the highs and lows of serving the military and also talks a bit about the nature of man in terms of hurdling and solving conflicts.
