When a prayer book from the Medieval era sold at an auction in 1991 revealing the original scribblings from Archimedes, it became a discovery that made scholars all over the world really enthusiastic. They were able to examine the contents and confirmed that this was one of Archimedes lost work, “The Method”. The Greek mathematician’s genius revelations and theories would have helped change or confirm some upheld views about the world.

The world of science and math have looked up to Achimedes as one of the most brilliant scientists to ever exist. Many say that his original concepts were truly ahead of his time. Archimedes had a specific and highly advanced ideas about mathematics, which helped propel Sycaruse’s achievements against the Romans.

Chaos during the Middle Ages has caused his works to disappear but some of these were eventually recovered in the 17th century, greatly helping the information revolution of those days.

The Method, which was treated as his final work was not among those documents. But over 2000 years later, this was finally at the hands of our current scholars.

NOVA explores Archimedes’ rare writings, as well as the book’s mysterious beginnings, tumultuous history and amazing discovery. As the ancient text comes back from the dead, it unlocks its revolutionary contents—the infinite secrets of one of history’s greatest thinkers.

A good film, but no "eureka" moment for me. We know the ancient mathmeticians/philosphers were exceptionally advanced in their thoughts and theories. This is merely another example of the church's consumate evil -the suppression and oppression of logical thought that continues even today.

The only difference between the persecution of Galeleo and the angry diatribes against Darwin – or the current attempts to teach Creationism as science, is the degree of political power possessed by the church.

I denounce religion on many levels. Not the least of which being that they have yet to sufficiently apologize for burning the Library of Alexandria. And I'm not sure any absolution is possible for that atrocity against humanity. It certainly will never be found in a steadfast dogmatism that, still to this day, reviles independant thought for no other reason than the patriarchs didn't include it in their Book

very interesting subject matter, but incredibly long winded presentation. not only do they state the obvious, they repeat it over and over again to the point that you begin to wonder if they'll ever get to the point. this is basically a 10 minute documentary stretched out to an hour – much the way mathematics is taught in schools. mathematical concepts can only be understood as wholes. but they are invariably dissected, diconnected and obscured in the process of conforming them to the format of a semester long course, rendering them so boring and pedantic that most people can't maintain any interest.
