There world is populated by seven billion of us humans who, inspite our differences in height, weight, color, features, beliefs and traditions, we are all actually genetically similar.

This documentary, as presented by Desmond Morris, is a profiling of the human species. Morris takes us front and center, exploring all of the aspects of our being and the way we behave.

Though we are raised differently, there are certain ways in which are rather common to us. From our gestures, to our instincts; to our fascination for sports and our attraction for entertainment and the arts; to our rituals and the way we keep our relationships… Morris traces these all back to the early man.

“The Human Animal” is a personal view of who we are. Some of these common traits we have with every human being in the planet are so ingrained, they can never be erased.

“The Human Animal” is also based on the book written by the same man. Desmond Morris has traveled all over the world to study different customs and understand human anthropology  better. He says that what he does is a to study how our species behave “from a zoological perspective”.

But… How is this not plagiarism?

This is like releasing the movies of the LotR saying they were created by Peter Jackson, without a reference to Tolkien.

This is a book written by Hans Hass in the 70's, right? I have it right here… Same title. Same topic. The description of the movie is almost identical to that of the book I have here. In several cases he is quoting directly from the book.

The first part of the movie isn't showing for some reason, so if they give credit to Hans Hass there: my apologies. He surely isn't mentioned at the end of the movie.

Did BBC and NGC just rip him off and copy his work? I don't get it…

      This is not plagiarism.

First of all, Hans Hass and his book from ’79 titled “How fish became humans. The fascinating history of the development of our body” that you probably mean, was primarily an environmentalist who mainly wrote documentaries about sharks and diving.
What is presented in this series of documentaries, is the work of Desmond Morris, from his early books like “The Naked Ape”, “The Human Zoo” etc. released in the 60′s.
The Human Animal is more of a compilation of his earlier works, and it might include some of the ideas about the “aquatic ape” which are not Hass’s creation. For that you would have to go back to 1942 and works of Max Westenhofer or, later, Elaine Morgan (who only getting interested in the subject AFTER reading Morris’s book).

03:12 “nutritionally inferior to meat[vegetation]” this type of feeding is “time consuming and monotonously repetitive”

both these statements are incredibly wrong.
the facts state that vegetables, fruits, legumes and nuts are far far superior nutritionally than meat.
furthermore, there is massive variety in a vegetarian or vegan diet or lifestyle. herbivores which humans are (i will explain this later) have depleted much of that variety through genetic modification but to say that there is less variety is pure ignorance.

      i stopped watching after this.

eating meat and animals in general has in effect caused numerous problems that threaten our human species today: deforestation, world hunger, water and air polution, CLIMATE CHANGE AND CLOBAL WARMING + so much more. our planet simply will not sustain all seven billion of us much longer and our obsession with gorging on animal carcass has much to do with this.

the truth is out there, but the faceless and powerful multinational corporations do not endorse the truth because quite simply, the truth does not earn them power or money. i urge anyone who reads this message to research the TRUE FACTS about eating animal flesh and the effects it has on our environment, health and our future. all the best. peace and love.

sorry, just realised i didnt explain why naturally humans are herbivoures and not carnivoures or omnivoures. i got distracted as i was typing. anyway it is a massive debate that continues to rage on. nevertheless i think i should explain myself somewhat but i just do not have the space here. if you are interested heres a starting point, a video that explains it with piggy humour – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05zhL1YUd8Q

You will NEVER i mean NEVER get the majority of the people on this globe to become vegetarians. I have never had a faceless powerful corperation force a steak down my neck-hole. I take care of that myself because meat is YUMMY. It is yummy and most people on the earth if given the choice would have meat in their diet on a regular basis. We are carnivores, that is just what we are.
Here is the thing, i get your point, but trying to make it by stating that climate change and global warming are caused by eating meat is just silly. In the big scheme of things, everything causes global warming and climate change and pollution. Cars, the packaging on your organic whole foods, the shoes on your feet, the computer you are using. All of these things will eventually end up destroying the earth either in their creation or their disposal. I may just be complacent, however, I believe you are ice-skating up-hill
