Man and woman. Mars vs. Venus. It’s been said that man and woman have different thought process and reactions, that they can never truly understand one another. Why is this so?

This documentary, divided in six parts and presented by Desmond Morris, explores the differences between the sexes. From the physical attributes to the mental and emotional outputs, the feature examines man and woman intimately. The documentary takes us all over the world, to understand other relationships between a man and a woman in different cultures.

“Different But Equal” talks about our physical features. It touches on a bit of history of how man and woman has evolved. It tackles the biology of our nature.

“The Language Of The Sexes” studies the different verbal and non-verbal languages used by the male and female, and compares this with each other.

“Patterns Of Love” explores how each of the sexes view and act when in love. Are the patterns similar or are they huge differences?

“Passages Of Life” is about the ideologies and principles of men and women, as well as the different cultures and practices observed all over the world, when it comes to finding a mate.

“The Maternal Dilemma” explains the role of men and women in society. Who does the bulk of work — the mother or the father.

“The Gender Wars” deals with which gender strives for equality or superiority. Is there a battle of the sexes going on?

For some reason Part 4 of "The Human Sexes" does not play. I've tried to engage it over several weeks to no avail.

@Godzullasrage: I've replaced it. Hope it works now.

Very interesting. Quite a time investment to watch them all, but I learned much.

The episodes that discussed marriage actually strengthened my resistance to same sex marriage.

      Really good videos

      Good show, well done.

Wile there were lots of good points made, there were equally lots of really wild and just plain incorrect speculation on the evolutionary origins of many of our peculiar human behaviours.

But I guess that's what one should expect from anthropology; as opposed to a real science. ; )

Why is that eardowl? because they didn't show same sex marriage in the film?

Woonderful. One of th best documentaries I've ever seen. It's not biased, realistic, and it puts emphasis on love, tolerance and equality.

interesting and overall pretty accurate, but many of the gender differences they stated are not fully supported by research, especially with the new psychological focus on differences between people rather than genders.
People have to realize that it is very easy to ignore the influence of society on gender differences, but the environment we grow up in has a large part to do with what people perceive as innate differences between male and female humans.

This is often a great blog. I have already been back many times during the last 7-day period and want to sign up for your rss feed implementing Google but can’t figure out the best way to do it accurately. Do you know of any tutorials?

I was completely disgusted by one specific bit in part 6 – Gender Wars.

The way the narrator made it sound as if lesbianism was a recent invention and were only constituted of feminist women who wanted to give up men is just wrong. Being gay, male or female, is not a choice and even if I was disappointed in men to the extent that I would want to give them up, I would never be a lesbian!

I was in complete agreement with this documentary until this point…
