Elizabeth Bathroy and Mary Tudor, two of the most fascinating, fearsome women of History. What has made them so fierce? Why did they have plenty of enemies? And what have they done to be regarded as evil? This documentary series is a profile on the Countess and the Queen and how much of their influence has transformed the world.

Often, when we think of the evil and controversial characters history books have, names like Genghis Khan and Hitler easily crop up. But these women are also responsible for a lot of the havoc that went on in the ancient days. They are also the reasons why some have been subjected to torture and death, and they have caused catastrophes in an unimaginable scale.

Presented by the Discovery Channel, this documentary is done in parts and series, providing a brief insight to the personalities, with each show highlighting what significance they have made in our world.

i’m speechless. Can’t believe someone could do these kinds of things to a fellow human being. Even if torture was considered “normal” back in those days, it’s still so horrifyingly disturbing…

    • spacebunny

Yeah, my mom was like that. There’s a reason why we have DCF.

    • Gave Up

I like torturing my cat, but not by slicing them up or burning them or anything. Just putting it in a cage or something and listen to it squirm. Maybe they got this same satisfaction by seeing other humans squirm, only they over did it.

Christianity is such a cruel religion.

    • annie

You are a sick freak. Torturing anything, animal or human shows that the person perpetrating the action has some serious psychological issues. The fact you are ”putting it in a cage or something and listen (sic) to it squirm” reveals that you have some deep seated issues within you. You evil abomination. The fact you get ”this same satisfaction” from these actions is even more disturbing – I bet you have no friends, your parents are alcoholics, you’ve been abused and have trouble sleeping. Dont post stuff like that – its beside the point and its disgusting. You need help. You sad, sad, weird, lonely person. Go cut yourself some more you emo freak.

Annie, you just gave a Troll the reaction they wanted. Some people get masturbation-like pleasure from saying douche-bag, irritating things in the comments sections of websites. Just informing you so you don’t get upset further by idiots like Gave Up. They just say things to get a rise out of people since being a decent person does not get them the attention they crave. A good person such as yourself should ignore them. Ignoring them is like killing them. They’re not worth the trouble.

Many of them are cruel…especially in regard to how they treat other religions. I’d almost say “all of them are cruel”, but I have not heard of atrocities done by Buddhists. That does not mean they have not committed atrocities, I have just never heard about it.

Unfortunately Christian and Muslim extremist have been the two worst for cruelty. Nice double standard with both.

Don’t blame religion for bad stuff that people have done with the excuse of religios conviction. The reason they use that excuse is because it’s valid and worth putting down your life for. Besides, Erzsebet Bathory was more influenced by political agendas, I think, which is often the case when religion is given the blame. You should know your history before making slanders at it!

    • teella

You should be ashamed of yourself; here someone comes clean about something very personal about themselves and all the sympathy you can muster is to call that person an emo freak. Nobody is perfect, and although we might have opinions, there’s no need to call anyone a freak.
Perhaps you should take a long hard look at yourself instead.

    • coury

you seriously need to stop it…ur standing up for someone who is torturing a cat…and your telling people not to blame religion for anything…if that is theyr opinion then they should be able to express it so maybe you should learn a bit about religion and how not to torture animals hunn.

My kind of girl…I’m in love…

    • Balazs

This is not a documentary film at all. The other part of the story is not at all elaborated. Elizabeth Bathory did not have a proper trial at all, she was in the way of another aristocrat, that is why they accused of everything. The story about how cruel she was, was written 100 years after her death..
Oh and by the way, she lived in the time of the great plague where people died in the number of hundreds, and she organised a sanctuary with doctors and nurses and this was believed after to be the place where all those people were tortured..
But those stupid historians were paid good money by the filmmakers to say: “yes, she was really cruel and bloodthirsty!”.. Miserable..

      “It is said that…”
      “According the the evidence submitted…”
      “Apparently…”

These words ring strongly in my ears, among others in this 7-minute “documentary”. These words amount to speculation – a conclusion drawn through what evidence is available, yet inconclusive. Sensationalism is rife in this, too. “Made to eat their own flesh”… Of all the reading I have done on Elizabeth Bathory, I have not once encountered comments regarding cannibalism. The drinking of virgin blood in order to sustain her youth, yes, but cannibalism? No.

I would strongly caution anyone against taking what has been said in this clip to heart, as the research behind it is sorely lacking, and often dramaticised.

      Hi Loren,
This is not a 7 minute documentary: there are multiple parts that are each 7 minutes. At the end of the first 7 minutes it will automatically start the next section. Your comments are very strong but you might have felt differently if you’d watched the whole thing. Give them a chance to carry their arguments.
