The MPAA Bullies a Bully

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has beat up on the Bully: a documentary soon to come out and produced by Harvey Weinstein.
The documentary tackles the topic of bullying in schools and the MPAA is defining the movie as “Rated R.” This means that less people will be able to see the movie.
A film that discusses the important cessation of bullying should not be only seen by those over 17. Director Hirsch had this to say:
“I made BULLY for kids to see – the bullies as well as the bullied. We have to change hearts and minds in order to stop this epidemic, which has scarred countless lives and driven many children to suicide. To capture the stark reality of bullying, we had to capture the way kids act and speak in their everyday lives – and the fact is that kids use profanity. It is heartbreaking that the MPAA, in adhering to a strict limit on certain words, would end up keeping this film from those who need to see it most.”
The fact that the MPAA allows supremely violent films to pass without a rated R is laughable. Because the film has a few “F Bombs” in it (the curse), the MPAA doesn’t approve?
