The Power of Nightmares

“The Power of Nightmares” explores American’s neo-conservative sector and compares this with the Islamic movement. The film attempts to study the ideologies, beliefs and practices of these groups to understand their thrusts better. Are there similarities between the two? And which of the two groups is more radical and more likely a force to be dealt with?
A highly controversial topic, this film was quite a source for discussion and debates between the progressives and conservatives. In 2005, this was shown at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received mixed reactions from the audience.
The film, produced by Adam Curtis, is divided into three parts and carries the subtitle: “The Rise of the Politics of Fear”.
The first part aims to differentiate the two groups and looks into the development of the Islamist and Neo-Conservative movements.
The second part discusses on the factions between these two groups and how members worked their way into the scheme of things, especially in the political world. It also explores some of the failed revolutions these two groups have masterminded.
The third part deals with the rise of the Al-Qaeda.
Part 1: “Baby It’s Cold Outside”:
Part 2: “The Phantom Victory”:
Part 3: “The Shadows in the Cave”:
