This documentary is part of a series that takes an in-depth look at some of the weapons used significantly in modern warfare. It provides a closer look at the concepts to these weapons development, which paved the way for the military advancements.

Featured in this set is the advancements on radar and stealth technology as demostrated by the powerful F117A Nighthawk. Considered as such an aircraft badass, this is an intimidating aircraft that flew virtually undetected and almost defied the laws of physics.  It was made of aluminum and titanium and had optimized radar detection.

It took several years for the Nighthawk to be developed by Lockheed Martin, and for its stealth techonolgy to be perfected. This was a top secret project that started in the late 70’s. But the first aircraft was able to fly and be tested only 10 years after.

The Nighthawk was used in the 1991 Gulf War, as it was an aircraft that was able to penetrate dense and hostile environment with great precision and high accuracy for targets. And was most especially useful for missions at night.

In 2008, however, the great Nighthawk flew its last and was retired at the hangars in Nevada.

Radar was a winner together with the proximity fuze – both of which (IMO) were the most important developments to sweep away the axis. Best from Spain.
