Alan Yentob asks why self-help books are so popular. Setting out to learn from the big hitters, he speaks to Susan Jeffers, author of Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway, and Anthony Robbins, motivator to the stars. Yentob discovers self-help is not quite as shallow as he thought. One of the most acclaimed self-help books of all time, Man’s Search for Meaning, came out of a concentration camp.

The popularity of books like “The Secret”, or “The Law of Attraction”, and “Think and Grow Rich” has propelle Alan Yentob to explore why these self-help books are increasingly popular and what’s the phenomena surrounding it. It this just a hype? Are there any thruths to the claims from the book? Do these literature really help its readings?

To gather insights, Alan Yentob talks to best-selling authors like Susan Jeffers, who wrote “Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway” and David Burns, who wrote “The New Mood Therapy that went to sell five million copies. He also meets Athony Robbins, who is an inspirational speaker who has coached famous personalities like Bill Clinton and Serena Williams into making their lives better.

What would Alan Yentob learn from these guru and will he have arrived at a realization himself?

I've been studying different self-help books, programs, and therapies for years. I appreciated watching this entire documentary. It is very well done. Thank you.

    • Well, it's ok. I hoped it would have more scientific approach… statistics of if it really helps… anything. It just presents a few self help books.

Love it, I’m so inspired now! Thank you so much! Having Richard Branson there also helps to convince business folks like me to realize that this isn’t just for hippies. Everyone can gain a little happiness from watching this!
