Around 1983, acheologist were able to unearth what is believed to be a primate fossil the experts called Ida. She was found in a quarry in Germany and was believed to be about 47 million years old when she was dug up. The fascinating this is, her bones were unbelievably preseved, in spite of what the world has gone through during all those years. Ida was also believed to have been one of human being’s earliest ancestors.

Before Ida was part of this collection, it had been in a private collection for over 20 years, until it was examined by Dr. Jørn Hurum, a Norwegian paleontologist who concluded that Ida may just be the missing link between our evolution to that of the modern primates.

Ida was purchased from the private collector, after which a team of experts came to study it. And on May 2009, their findings were announced to to the world.

This documentary features the discovery of Ida and what significance she brings to the study of human beings. Narrated by David Authenborough, the film also offers a special access to the American Museum of Natural History.
