What is RSS?
RSS stands for 'Rich Site Summary' (or 'Really Simple Syndication' or 'RDF Site Summary') and is commonly used with weblogs, news sites and forums to keep track of the latest updates. When a website offers an RSS feed, you can subscribe to it using an RSS reader with the feed link. After subscribing, you won't have to visit your favorite website every time to check for any possible updates. Updates will be automatically added to your list of RSS-items.
How do I subscribe?
To subscribe via RSS you will need an RSS reader. This can either be a program or a web-based feed reader. Some browsers even have a built-in reader; Firefox has a handy program called 'Live Bookmarks'. Here are some links to get you started:
- Programs: FeedReader, RSSReader
- Web-based: Google Reader, FeedBucket
After choosing a reader, all you have to do is look for the feed link. On most websites this can easily be done by looking for the RSS-logo (the image in the upper left corner of this text). Use the feed link with your favorite RSS reader, and from that moment on your reader will keep you notified of any updates to the subscribed feeds.
