what a boring condescending arrogant poor excuse for a human being he was. And the documentary is as boring as he was. Yawnnnnn…………zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
It is an insightful outlook on the origins of modern anthropology and a frank and scrutinised analysis of its architect, Bronislaw Malinowski.
I enjoyed it very much. The study of anthropology is the study of humans, good, bad or indifferent. The contradictions of his life take us to a deeper level. It made me think, "why as humans we do what we do"? What drives us? We are all driven by something, some things good, some bad and others, time will tell. Whatever his motives, he changed our view on the world. I find it hard to judge someone from 1918 from 2009, I was not there. I grew up in a very different light. The growth of education and enlightenment changed my view from those of earlier generations. He, even reluctantly, had a part in that. Very insightful video.
I enjoyed the documentary. I didn't know much about Malinowski before and this was a nice informative introduction.
I have read few of his studies and i was surprised by the fact that he could easily explain differences, for example between magic and religion, in a very logical manner. On some ideas he is even more accurate then Emile Durkheim, a structuralist which is often mentioned in Malinowski’s studies. I was eager to ad a face and a personality to this anthropologist i only knew from his own papers.
